Bangladesh ODI cricket captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has bought the Awami League nomination form for the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
He picked up the form from Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader from the party’s headquarters in Dhanmondi on Sunday.
He wishes to run for the Narail-2 parliamentary seat.
Sheikh Hafizur Rahman from the Workers Party won the seat at the 10th National Parliamentary Elections.
Mashrafe went to the Gonobhaban to meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina prior to picking up the form.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had also expressed his interest in running as the Awami League candidate in Magura.
Shakib met with Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on Saturday night. She advised him to continue playing cricket for now.
Mashrafe, in addition to leading the ODI team, has conducted various welfare efforts near his home in Narail.
He established an organisation called the ‘Narail Express Foundation’ last year to conduct development work in the area.
