Law Minister Anisul Haque on Thursday said the marriage registration of Rohingyas will be illegal from now on and legal action will be taken against the kazi (marriage registrar) who will do it.
“There’ll be no registration of Rohingya marriages in the country from now on and the kazis will face legal action if they are found doing so,” he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners on the third day of the DCs’ conference.
The minister said, a circular in this regard will be issued by the ministry soon to different districts.
Anisul Haque said, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Law Ministry will jointly work to widen the purview of the mobile courts to stop drug smuggling and gambling.
Asked about changing the law of the mobile court, the minister said the present law is enough to control crimes.
The minister turned down the proposal of the DCs for their judicial power to take cognisance of crimes for trial. “There’s no chance of providing them with this judicial power without amending the law,” he said adding, “Sheikh Hasina’s government won’t take any initiative to amend the law.”
