Mariner secure top slot in Premier Hockey

Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club are leading the points table of the Dhaka Premier Division Hockey League having four successive victories in the super-six stage with a 2-1 win against Abahani Limited at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Monday.
With the day’s victory, Mariner collected 40 points from 15 matches, followed by defending champions Usha Krira Chakra with unbeaten 38 from 14 matches. Abahani are in the 3rd place bagging 30 points from 14 matches.
In the day’s match, Waqas Sharif struck a field goal first for Mariner in the 9th minute. Shafqat Rasool scored the equaliser for Abahani also by a field goal in the 22nd minute. Tomas sealed the win for Mariner in the 63rd minute by a penalty corner goal.
In another match of the 12-team league at the same venue on the day, Mohammedan Sporting Club outplayed Wanderers Club by 5-1 goals.
This is Mohammedan’s first victory in the super-six stage of the league after two successive defeat and secured 4th slot collecting 29 points from 14 matches.
Rasel Mahmud Jimmi made a hat-trick scoring four goals for Mohammedan. Jimmi struck in the 30th, 38th and 42nd minutes to complete his hat-trick and added another one in the 58th minute. Mohammedan took the led in the very 7th minute with Tasvar Abbas field goal.
Rakibul Hasan scored a field goal in the 44th minute for Wanderers.
