Also present on the occasion were Channel i’s Director Mr. ShykhSeraj, Agrani Bank Limited’s Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Shams-Ul Islam, Bangladesh Bank’s Executive Director Mr. Ashok Kumar Dey. The process of lending of agricultural and rural credit gets too lengthy given the earlier process. Not only do farmers tend to lack information on loan application, processing, and necessary attachments, but also they face a lot of hassles at all steps.
Now, application and disbursement process of agriculture and rural credit has been brought online to eliminate the hassle faced by marginalized farmers who are interested to receive this loan.
All the scheduled bank officials, district and upazila level officers at relevant offices and union digital center entrepreneurs in Chattogram have already received training on how to operate this system. Now farmers can apply for loan against all types of crops and grains, without physically visiting the bank, by submitting all necessary documents online from anywhere anytime. Once the application is received, the Upazila Agriculture Officers and bank authority can verify the online application and do necessary background check before approving the loan. Meanwhile, loan applicant farmers can review latest progress of application through the online system and receive notification by SMS once the loan is approved.
Farmers can also apply for agricultural loan from their nearest Digital Centre. Though the service is currently available for users in Chittagong only, it will gradually be made available nationwide.
This innovation by the Press Club branch manager of Agrani Bank Limited in Chittagong Md. Jashim Uddin said marginalised farmers can now easily get access to agriculture loan and it would significantly reduce their suffering.
