Staff Reporter :
The Bangladesh Marginal Poultry Industry Organization (BMPIO) has demanded poultry feed price reduction and five others to save the marginal producers from the hands of the big companies.
The demand was announced at a human chain programme in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday.
According to the organization, marginal people started the first poultry farm in this country. Many of them sold their land or changed their professions to start a poultry farm and gradually gave the structure of the industry.
Later various businessmen became interested in this sector. The leaders said that they initially were the feed owners only, but now they are controlling the market by producing all kinds of chickens including food, chicks and broilers and layers.
As a result, the farmers are now on the verge of peril
Their demands call for the quality of feed for poultry, keeping the price of broiler and layer chickens between Taka 20 and Taka 25 per annum and raising the quality of chicks.
They also argued for sanctions of loans to the registered farms in every upazila, not allowing a single farmer to produce more than 10,000 ready-made chickens and naming the registration number of their organizations by the Ministry of Livestock.
