Many dev works underway during present govt: Mannan

Planning Minister MA Mannan Wednesday said a lot of development works are ongoing during the tenure of the present Awami League government aiming to transform the country into a developed one. “A lot of development works are happening around us during the tenure of our government and there is none to deny the fact. Massive development works are being unleashed in agriculture, health, and education sectors,” he said. The government is in a hurry to do a lot of good things, the minister said while addressing an ‘Inception Workshop on Special Research Programme for the government of Bangladesh’ held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
General Economics Division (GED) Member of the Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam and Planning Division Secretary Ziaul Islam spoke at the meeting.
Mannan said the Awami League government and also Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always want to give a special thrust and attention on research, and allocate necessary resources to promote researchers to conduct more research. “Necessary allocation should have to be given in this regard.” “Our Prime Minister attaches due importance on research and she thinks that there is a lot of things to be done in research,” he added. The planning minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to highlight local initiatives, local resources and local brains in every endeavour. “Our capacity has increased and it’s a matter of good feeling,” he said.
Lauding the research works carried out by Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) and other agencies on the RMG and pharmaceuticals sectors, Mannan said these works will help the government know the prospects and challenges of these sectors.
