Manikganj cylinder blast death toll now 6

UNB, Manikganj :The death from the fire that erupted following a cylinder explosion at a CNG refueling station in Shibalaya upazila on Monday has climbed to six following the death of five more people on Tuesday.Of them, four succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital and the rest at Enam Medical College Hospital at Savar on the outskirts of the capital.The deceased were identified as Lebu Miah alias Nur Islam, 40, a BRTC bus driver and son of Babu Miah of Nali village in Shibalaya upazila, Delwar Hossain, 40, an employee of the refueling station and son of Monir Uddin of Barangail village in the upazila, Shamim Uddin Pakhi, 35, an auto-rickshaw driver and son of Rafiqul Islam of Kakon village in Daulatpur upazila, Mohammad Masum Uddin, 46, manager of the filling station, and Arshad Ali, 43, of Barangail village of Shibalaya upazila.Of them, the former three succumbed to their injuries at the DMCH burn unit in the morning while Masum at the same hospital around 1pm and Arshad at Enam Medical College Hospital around 4pm.Earlier, Helal Uddin, 55, supervisor of the nearby Julnas CNG Station who hailed from Mymensingh, died on the spot during the fire incident.Police and locals said the fire originated after a cylinder went off with a big bang in a compressor room of ‘Rumi CNG Filling Station’ around 5pm on Monday, leaving Helal dead on the spot and six other people injured.The injured were first admitted to Sadar Hospital from where four of them were shifted to the burn unit of DMCH as their condition deteriorated. Arshad was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital.The lone survivor, Salauddin, was receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the DMCH burn unit.
