Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife as she did not give him Tk 20,000 as dowry in 2004.
Judge Joysree Somaddar of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 of Dhaka also fined convict Amirul Islam Emon, who hails from
Natore district, Tk 10,000. However, the court acquitted fugitive Saurav in the case, as the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against him beyond all doubts.
According to the prosecution, Ayesha Siddiqa was married to Emon in 2001. The couple had been blessed with a son. But Emon used to demand dowry from his wife.
On November 15, 2004, Emon and his uncle Saurav strangulated Ayesha to death when she was sleeping. Victim’s father Abu Bakar Siddique filed a case against them with Pallabi Police Station on November 16, 2004.
