A man was stabbed to death, allegedly by a group of muggers in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area, early Wednesday.
The victim Sayeed Khokon Mir (30) was a pick-up van driver by profession.
He was sitting inside the Jatrabari wholesale fish market after parking his vehicle around 2:30am when some youths were handling money nearby, police said.
As Sayeed along with some other drivers told the youths that they mugged the money and protested their activities inside the market, an altercation ensued, and one of the youths stabbed him in the abdomen.
With critical injuries, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at 4:00am.
Hailing from Barishal, Sayeed used to live in Jatrabari’s Kajla area with his wife and daughter.
Police picked up five persons after the murder. They are investigating the incident. Filing of a case is underway.
