Man loses finger in attack after protesting teen’s harassment in Jamalpur

Local influentials chopped a man’s two fingers off as he protested an incident of harassment to a mentally challenged teenager in Jamalpur.
The incident took place at Dhararchar Noyapara village in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur around 11am on Sunday.
The victim, one, Samad said local influentials Nur Islam, Zia Mia, Amil Haque, Ali Hossain, and their men were angry at him and his uncle Soru Miya, as on Saturday they spoke against the influentials’ verbal and physical abuse to mentally challenged Biplob Miya, 17.
On Sunday, the influentials ambushed Soru Miya in the village. Hearing Soru

scream, Samad rushed to the spot and the assailants cut two of Samad’s fingers and tried to do the same with Soru, according to Samad.
Two locals were injured when they intervened at one point during the attack. Afterwards, Samad and Soru were taken to Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Police arrested Nur Islam, after Samad filed a case against nine people with Bakshiganj police station.
Bakshiganj police station Sub-Inspector Abdul Aziz said: “Nur Islam will be produced before court. We are trying to arrest the other accused in the case.”
On September 19, this year, an Awami Jubo League leader sustained severe injuries on his left hand as Chhatra League leaders allegedly slashed his fingers nearly off over a dispute that reportedly occurred for as little as Tk20 in Satkhira.
On June 19, two fingers of a local trader were cut off by his rivals during a clash over dredging sand from Kirtinasa River in Mirasar village of Zajira upazila on Friday.
