A micro driver of a factory at Uttara EPZ in Nilphamari slaughtered his fiancé and then committed suicide with the same knife at Kalitola near the inter-district bus terminal in the broad day light yesterday.
The girl identified as Liza Akhtar (20), was the youngest daughter of Zohurul Islam, a tea stall owner from Sutipara village in Sadar Upazila. She was a student of Class XII of Mashiur Rahman Degree College. The micro driver’s name was Rabiul Islam Nayon (28), son of one Zoyed Ali from Haziganj Gorgram village of the same upazila. He was working as a micro driver at a Chinese toy factory in Uttara EPZ.
Sabita Rani (18), eyewitness of the fatal incident and a classmate of victim Liza said that they were returning home at about 9.30 am on Saturday from a private coaching center at Panchmatha being run by their ICT teacher.
When they reached Kalitola few meters away from the inter-district bus terminal, killer Rabiul coming from the opposite direction held victim from the rear and instantly cut her throat with a sharp knife. Moments after, the killer also cut his own throat with same knife and died few meters away from Liza’s dead body, with a sharp shouting.
Sabita who was very much shocked having witnessed the two murders said that the driver Nayon developed extra-marital relation with Liza hiding the fact that he was married and had a child. When she knew it, she refused to continue the ties, and it angered Nayon prompting him to commit the crime, she added.
Jahangir Alam (30), brother of Liza, said that the micro driver used to disturb her sister for a long time and they were advising her to sever relation with the killer.
Officer-In-Charge of Sadar Police Station Shahjahan Pasha said that the primary investigation suggested that the crime was an act of a perverted man. We have recovered the dead bodies and sent those to sadar hospital for autopsy, he further said.
