Rivals killed an old man over land dispute at Kharulia Master Para Village under Jhilongja Union of Sadar Upazila in the district early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Fazal Kabir, 62, son of late Asad Ali of the village. The deceased’s son Anisul Kabir said they had a long-standing dispute over land with one Nur Ahmad of the village.
On Saturday night, Fazal Kabir and his men tried to build a house on the disputed land when Nur Ahmad and his people resisted them.
At one stage, a clash started, leaving Fazal Kabir seriously injured. He was rushed to District Sadar Hospital where he was declared dead at 3am on Sunday.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Model Police Station Farid Uddin Khandaker confirmed the incident.
