UNB, Habiganj :
A man was hacked to death allegedly by his neighbours following an altercation between two children of their families at Sadekpur village in Sunarughat upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased, identified as Lal Shah, 35, of the village, had been doing a job in the Maldives.
Quoting locals, Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Chanurughat Police Station, said two children of Jabed Ali and Lal Shah locked into an
altercation while playing.
As a sequel to the incident, Jabed’s family members attacked Lal and other members of his family with sharp weapons. At one stage, they hacked Lal, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, police arrested six people, including Jabed Ali, in this connection, the OC added.
Advisory: The UNB story slugged ‘Hacked-Death’ was published on March 9 with a mistaken identity of the deceased and this has been released again following a rejoinder from the Embassy of the Maldives in Dhaka. The deceased was not a Maldivian expatriate, but a Bangladeshi national who had been doing a job in the Maldives. Editor, UNB.
