A man died in custody of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Satkhira, hours after he was arrested from his house in the district’s Debhata upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Babul Sardar (56), son of late Jurun Sardar of Basantapur village in the upazila, reported our correspondent.
Satkhira DB Inspector Yeasin Alam Chowdhury said acting on a tip-off, a DB team arrested Babul from his home with 45 bottles of phensedyl around 11am on Saturday.
He was taken to the DB office for interrogation after a case was filed against him with Debhata Police Station under Narcotics Control Act, said the inspector.
Babul “hung he from the window” during some point at night while in custody, said Inspector Yeasin.
Talking to reporters, the victim’s daughter Sultana Munni said an unidentified woman came to their house around 10am on Saturday and met her father in his room.
Later, a group of 4-5 people, identifying themselves as DB policemen, recovered 45 bottles of phensedyl from the room and detained him after beating him up, she said.
The victim’s wife Sahanara Khatun claimed her husband did not commit suicide and demanded justice for his death.
