A man reportedly died at Tejgaon Industrial Police Station of the city, hours after his arrest on Saturday midnight.
He has been identified as Abu Bakar Siddique Babu, 48, son of one late Nurul Islam from Noakhali.
He was a floor In-Charge of FDC and an accused in a case, police sources said.
While asked about the reason of the death, Tejgaon Zone’s Deputy Commissioner Biplob Bijoy Talukder claimed that Abu Bakar Siddique committed suicide by using sheet around his neck inside the police custody.
Earlier he was taken to Tejgaon Industrial Police Station after his arrest from the city’s Tejgaon area on Saturday night after filling a case by Roksana Akter under ICT law, DC added.
DMCH sources said that victim was brought to hospital by Inspector Iftekhar Islam around 4.am early Sunday. But duty physician declared him dead.
Deceased body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy, said Bacchu Miah, in-Charge of DMCH Outpost Police.
But deceased family members rejected the suicide charge which police claimed. Aleya Ferdoshy, wife of the victim claimed that my husband was not supposed to suicide. We haven’t seen any syndrome in suicide on his body.
But we saw many signs of attack in his neck and head which ensured that he died in the police custody after assault, Aleya added.
Rafiqul Islam, Administrative Officer of FDC said that law enforcers called me over the phone and asked to know the information of Abu Bakar. I replied the police that he is our staff. But later I heard that he died under police custody.
