Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) arrested a man from Chattogram city’s EPZ area on Sunday night, on charges of raping a 14-year old girl for three months and blackmailing the victim with a video recorded during the first incident.
The arrestee, Ruhul Amin, 28, was identified as son of Nurul Islam hailing from Mongla of Bagerhat district.
“The culprit used to live beside the house of the victim along with his family at Kolshi Dighir par of EPZ area. He had raped the girl in several phases over the last three months, though blackmailing her,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shaheda Sultana of RAB-7.
Ruhul was arrested from Bay Shopping Complex of EPZ area after receiving a complaint from the victim on July 14, ASP Shaheda said, adding that a camera, a USB drive, two memory cards and two mobile phones were recovered from his possession.
ASP Shaheda said Ruhul, father of two children, had been molesting the victim since last three years at her house, as the parents of the girl went outside for work during daytime. “Ruhul took photos of the girl and filmed it on his mobile phone during the abuse, and used to blackmail her by it,” said the ASP.
Three months ago, Ruhul again forced the girl to go with him to a house of EPZ area threatening her of spreading the video and photos on social media, said the ASP. He raped the girl there.
Ruhul filmed the entire incident on his phone, and later demanded money from the girl threatening to release it on social media.
“The girl had taken money from her parents’ savings and given it to Ruhul in several installments, but the culprit again put pressure on her to pay more money on July 14,” said ASP.
The victim disclosed the matter to her parents and lodged complaints with RAB the same day, following which the elite force made the arrest.
“Scrutinising the devices, RAB recovered the video clips from those,” said ASP Shaheda, adding that he was handed over to EPZ police station where a case was lodged with the police station in this connection.
