BSS, Sylhet :
Bangladesh national football team skipper Mamunul Islam is still very much hopeful of his team’s chance of playing the semifinal of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament, despite a shocking 1-0 defeat to Malaysia in their tournament opening match
on Thursday.
The country’s midfielder firmly said he is hopeful that his team would fight back in their next group match against Sri Lanka by taking the home ground advantage.
He was talking to the pressmen today at team hotel giving the reason of their defeat in the first match as well as what will be their next step in order to pave the way for the semifinal.
Commenting about Malaysian team the Bangladesh skipper said:” They (Malaysia) really surprised us to play pressing football in the first 20 minutes.”
Captain admitted they were caught back and were not in a position to shrugged off from the mental pressure in the first 20 minutes which was dominated by Malaysia … and they also showed lack of mental capability which a player should have in such a big match.
“Yes every body of the team is disappointed after the defeat against Malaysia although it’s natural but off course we have not given it up …. The Sri Lankan side is good and we have still have chance to play semifinal,” said the skipper when asked about the team’s reason for losing to Malaysia.
Asked whether result of first match will hamper performance of their next match, Mamunul said: “I take all responsibility for yesterday’s defeat.
I want to be free from any mental tension. I told the boys to play their natural game.”
Mamun urged local fans to back them up as a win against Sri Lanka will create their opportunity to play in the semifinal. We will be closely following Malaysia-Sri Lanka match.
