Reuters, Kuala Lumpur :
A no-confidence motion planned by Malaysia’s opposition alliance against embattled Prime Minister Najib Razak will not be heard by the current session of parliament, the speaker of the house said on Tuesday.
The leader of the newly formed opposition alliance Pakatan Harapan, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the wife of jailed opposition politician Anwar Ibrahim, on Monday announced plans to submit a no-confidence motion this week.
Opposition leaders are seeking Najib’s removal following public anger over alleged graft and financial mismanagement at state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), which has debts of more than $11 billion.
The fund, whose board of advisers is chaired by Najib, is being investigated in several countries.
