UNB, Dhaka :The Dhaka-Kolkata direct train, ‘Maitree Express’, will now run six days instead of four a week from Monday. The train will operate on the route also on Sunday and Monday. It will leave Kolkata for Dhaka on Sunday and vice versa on Monday.Railways Minister Mazibul Hoque will inaugurate the expansion of the service at Dhaka Cantonment Station at 7:30am on Monday. The Maitree Express will leave the station for Kolkata at 8:30am.Bangladesh Railways Director General Amzad Hossain on Saturday said the Maitree train is currently running between Dhaka and Kolkata on Tuesday-Friday a week. “From Monday, the train will be in service from Sunday to Friday a week,” he told UNB.The decision of expanding the train service came at a bilateral meeting held between Bangladesh Railways and Indian Railways in Kolkata on October 26-27 last year.The schedule of the additional trips was approved at an inter-ministerial meeting of Bangladesh on November 16 last. The Maitree train resumed its journey in 2008 after a break of 43 years.
