Gas supply to all the CNG refuelling stations will remain suspended for 24 hours from Friday midnight to Saturday midnight for emergency maintenance work at Bibiyana Gas Field, said an Energy Ministry media release on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, some CNG pump owners have complained that pressure of gas has been falling since Monday last.
The residents of city’s Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Rampura areas also complained that pressure of gas burners has fallen from 9:00 am to 5:00pm on Tuesday. They feared that the situation might be worse on Eid day due to the maintenance work of Bibiyana Gas Field.
Titas gas officials said they are getting 1650mmcfd gas against demand for 1730mmcfd. The gas crunch is seen after diverting it to Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory, they said.
Due to insufficient supply against huge demands, a severe gas crisis is prevailing in many areas of Dhaka city for the last few days.
Some CNG-refuelling station owners said they are facing low gas pressure, which is resulting in long queues of vehicles and causing traffic congestions on the adjacent roads.
Managing Director of Titas Gas Md Nowshad Islam said the problem is temporary and it will be resolved with the completion of the maintenance work at Bibiyana.
