Maintain status quo on ‘Rana Plaza’ movie till Sept 14: SC

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday ordered for maintaining status quo on ‘Rana Plaza’, a film based on the rescue of victim Reshma alive from the ruins of Rana Plaza building after 17 days of its collapse, till September 14.
Passing the order following a review petition, Chamber Judge
Justice Hasan Foez Siddique sent the petition to the regular bench of the Appellate Division fixing Monday for next hearing. The order came a day before the movie is scheduled to be released.
On August 24, the High Court banned for six months the screening of ‘Rana Plaza, saying that the movie was made ignoring the guidelines set by the court earlier. The court passed the order after hearing a petition filed by president of Bangladesh National Garment Workers Employees League Sirajul Islam.
On September 6, the Supreme Court scrapped the HC order in response to an appeal filed by Shamima Akhker, producer of the movie.
Later, a petition was filed with the Appellate Division seeking review of the apex court order. The film, directed by Nazrul Islam Khan, was first scheduled to be released on September 4.
