Graft charge: Mahmudur`s appeal against charge sheet dismissed

Staff Reporter :A bench of the High Court (HC) on Thursday dismissed an appeal submitted on behalf of Mahmudur Rahman, Editor (acting) of the daily Amardesh, challenging the legality of framing charge sheet against him in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).The bench comprising Justice Borhan Uddin and Justice K M Kamrul Kader issued the order after hearing on the plea.ACC Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said, now trial against Mahmudur Rahman will proceed.On June 13, 2010, the ACC sent a notice to him seeking his personal wealth statement. As he did not comply with the instruction, the anti-graft watchdog’s Deputy Director Nur Hossain lodged a case against him with Gulshan Thana on June 16 and submitted charge sheet in July.The court framed charges against the acting editor on April 28 this year. Later he filed a writ petition with the HC challenging the charge framing.Former Attorney General A J Mohammad Ali and Advocate Tajul Islam appeared on behalf of the editor.
