Mahmudullah set up victory for Sheikh Jamal in DPL

An allround performance by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club saw them to jump from eighth to fourth place in the Dhaka Premier League points table after their exciting 11-run victory over Brothers Union held on Thursday at BKSP ground no. 3 in Savar.
Brothers also had a chance to go to fourth place, but slipped to ninth place instead.
Mahmudullah, the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club skipper, contributed 107, his second century of the season, to carry his team to 252 for 8 after being inserted. In reply, Dhanmondi’s bowlers showed fight to restrict Brothers to 241 for 8 in 50 overs.
Brothers were cruising at 184 for 3 in the 41st over after Imrul Kayes (70), and captain Tushar Imran (55) showed some resistance with half-centuries.
Muktar Ali removed Milind Kumar at that stage, after which the required rate crept and wickets fall in regular intervals. Pacer Shafiul Islam was particularly good towards the last few overs, and finished his spell with 3 for 40. Mahmudullah, after shine with bat, too finished with three wickets conceding 29 runs. He was later named the player of the match.
Earlier, Mahmudullah cracked five fours and three sixes in his 114-ball stay on the crease. He added 119 runs for the third wicket with Marshall Ayub, who scored 54 runs off 84 balls. Spinner Sanjit Saha hauled 3 for 69 from his quota 10 overs.
