Mahabubul Haque Chisty, former chairman of Farmers Bank audit committee, was shown arrested yesterday in five cases filed over amassing more than Tk 135.45crore illegally.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order after Mohammad Faisal, an Assistant Director of the
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and also the Investigation Officer of the cases, submitted five separate petitions. Besides, Chisty’s son Rashedul Haque was shown arrested in two of the five cases.
On Sunday, Chisty and Rashedul were produced in the court. Earlier on December 15 last year, ACC filed five separate cases with its Integrated District Office-1 of Dhaka against Chisty, his wife Rozy Chisty, son, daughter Rimi Chisty and wife of his son, Farhana Ahmed. Of them, Rozy and Rimi are now on bail, while Farhana is still on the run.
According to the prosecution, the ACC says Chisty has amassed illegal wealth of Tk 28,55,61,590, Rozy Tk 37.38 crore, Rashedul Tk 32.68 crore while his wife Farhana owned illegal wealth of Tk 13.68 crore and daughter Tk 21.20 crore.
In 2018, Chisty and his son were arrested in connection with a money-laundering case of Tk 160 crore.
