Magura district team clinched gold medal in the women’s football competition of the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games beating Brahmanbaria district team by 3-2 goals in the tie-breaker of the final at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
The stipulated time ended in a 1-1 draw. Thus the fate of the match was decided in the penalty shoot-out. Brahmanbaria district team bagged silver medal in this event.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi district team earned the bronze medal in this event defeating Bangladesh Ansar & VDP by 8-1 goals at the same venue on the same day.
The two semi-finals and the final were held on the same day due to inclement weather.
The final was scheduled to be start at 7.00pm. But due to storm and rain the final was started after making a delay.
In the first semi-final, Brahmanbaria district team edged past Rajshahi district team by 4-3 goals in the tie-breaker. The allotted time ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the day’s second semi-final, Magura district team eased past Ansar & VDP by 5-0 goals.
