A case has been filed against eight people on charges of abducting and gang-raping a female madrasa student in Sylhet.
The victim’s father lodged the case on Saturday night with Jalalabad police station, under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
On February 20, the plaintiff’s 14-year-old daughter was walking to Turukkhola Islamia Balika Alim Madrasah to fetch her new ninth grade books, according to the case statement.
On the way, CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Muhibur Rahman, the key accused in the case, forcibly picked the girl up into his vehicle and knocked her out.
Afterwards, she was kept in the back room of second accused Adil’s shop in the Khalpar area and gang-raped by the eight accused till 3am on February 21.
Muhibur then demanded a ransom of Tk3 lakh from the plaintiff for his daughter’s safe return.
At one stage, the victim was rescued by her relatives and admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for medical attention. She is currently undergoing treatment at the one-stop crisis centre of the hospital.
Muhibur and Adil are currently in police custody.
