The mad rush of people returning to Dhaka continued on Saturday also, amid immense sufferings on their way back to the capital which they left to celebrate Eid in their ancestral villages with their near and dear ones.
Till Friday, around 62 lakh subscribers of the four telecom companies – Grameenphone, Robi Axiata, Banglalink and Teletalk – entered the capital after Eid. Post and Telecommuni-cation minister Mustafa Jabbar shared this data in a Facebook post on Saturday afternoon. On Friday, around 8.48 lakh subscribers of the four telecom companies came back to the city. The largest number of people returned to Dhaka on Monday, when around 12.06 lakh mobile phone subscribers entered the capital.
In the 12 days till May 15, the day after Eid-ul-Fitr, around 106.46 lakh people left Dhaka for their ancestral homes in different districts.
