Noted lyricist and freedom-fighter Osman Shawkat died to a cardiac arrest on Monday evening at his residence in the capital’s Banasree area. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter. Osman Shawkat retired as a joint secretary of the Bangladesh government.
Osman Shawkat was laid to rest at the Zurain graveyard after his Namaz-e-Janaza took after Zuhr prayers yesterday. He was also given a guard of honour by the authorities.
Osman Shawkat authored many famous songs, including Jibonanda Hoye Sangsare Ajo Ami, Ek Phonta Bish Aj, Sonamukhi Sui Diye Selai Kora Kaj and Ami Chanpa Dangar Bou.
