The deep depression over East Central Bay and adjoining areas on Tuesday concentrated into a cyclonic storm ‘Kyant’ and it is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction, said a special weather bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department
According to the bulletin, the deep depression
moved slightly towards west-northwestwards and concentrated into a cyclonic storm ‘Kyant’ over the East central Bay and adjoining areas. It was centered at 9:00am yesterday about 595 km south of Chittagong Port, 510 km south of Cox’s Bazar Port, 645 km south-southeast of Mongla Port and 575 km south-southeast of Payra Port.
The cyclonic storm is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction, the Met Office cautioned.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the deep depression center is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts or squally winds. The sea will remain rough.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower distant cautionary Signal No. One but instead hoist distant warning Signal No. Two.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
