Khadiza Khatun, 18, was allegedly beaten and strangled to death by the relatives of her lover Mohammad Yousuf Ali while observing hunger strike for marriage at a village Dhorjamotail in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district on Tuesday night.
Khadiza Khatun, daughter of Ansar Ali of village Jhaupara, had love affairs with Mohammad Yousuf Ali, a local shopkeeper for the last three years.
As the ill-fated girl continued to propose Yousuf to marry her, he (Yousuf) always avoided her. At one stage on Tuesday night, Khadiza went to Yousuf’s brother-in-law house and started observing hunger strike, the relatives of Yousuf beat her up and strangled her to death, local said.
Police arrested Ibrahim Hossain, 62, Rafiqul Islam, 30, Ramzan Ali, 25, Bhola Miah, 30 and Ismail Hossain, 60 in this connection.
