Loss of lives should be avoided when elections are farcical and one-sided

Bangladesh witnessed a blood-spattered day on Wednesday where about 14 people were killed and several hundred injured in the fifth phase of the Union Parishad (UP) polls as the voting was marred by massive violence in some districts.
We’ve no such words to express our grief for the untimely loss of so many lives in a single day. Is there any justification for arranging such deadly polls when elections do not matter to grab the state power?
These unnecessary brutal killings also remind us that people have now become hostages of some gangsters, who are now fortifying their bases getting blessings from the government party. The result is Awami Leaguers are killing Awami Leaguers. So, popularity is not their strength, rather they depend on ill-gotten money and muscle power to get the election victory. Its obvious outcome is increasing number of fatalities — and the candidate who is more powerful he is getting the victory.
It cannot be called election by any means.
We can cite here a report of Ain O Salish Kendra released on 31st December 2021, where it said the country witnessed at least 113 deaths and 7,201 injuries in 672 incidents of violence in the first four phases of UP polls in 2021.
ASK mentioned 13 more people were killed and 788 people were also injured in 83 incidents in municipalities and city corporations’ elections. Can anyone imagine how far the Election Commission could be shameless and uncaring for arranging such useless elections.
Why cannot they stop election one after another when death and violence are so frequent. We cannot change our character as being coward though talk brave when safe.
