Staff Reporter :
Bangladesh Police on Tuesday launched a special app to control the movement of people during the week-long stricter nationwide lockdown imposed by the government from Wednesday.
After the inauguration of the app named ‘Movement Pass’– police have received about 125,000 applications in
the first hour, and about 15,000 applications are being submitted per minute, according to the public relations department of police.
The high number applications is leading to some problems with the server, so it may not be immediately possible to enter the police headquarters website. Police sources said efforts are underway to solve the error.
Police Headquarters Assistant Inspector General (Public Relations) Md Sohel Rana said: “One person will not be given more than three movement passes a day.
The idea is to give a maximum of 15 movement passes to each person per week.”
Movement passes will not be required for people working in emergency services, including journalists.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said people who go outside without movement passes or a valid reason during the lockdown starting from Wednesday will have to face police interrogation.
He made the statement while inaugurating the Movement Pass app at Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium on Tuesday morning.
“Using this pass, citizens can move from one place to another. However, the pass can be taken only once with one mobile number and car number,” he said.
Discouraging citizens to bring out their cars, he added: “Please take the movement pass when necessary and cooperate with the police.”
Police officials said a person cannot apply with the same mobile number more than once for the same reason. They also said a movement pass will expire three hours after issuance.
In case of emergency, people can get the pass through an app by visiting: movementpass.police.gov.bd
