Due to breakdown the only medium of communication Jipeball Bridge, residents of twenty villages under Matiranga Upazila Sadar of the district are facing distress for almost one year.
In the middle of the last year, due to heavy rains, the bridge over the Dhaliya canal of Sadar union collapsed in water stream. So far, no initiative has been taken to reform or newly construction for it. As a result farmers and traders of the areas are also suffering a lot as they are facing setback to carry their products and goods to different areas.
Locals have been crossing with risk since the last one year. Due to no official initiative, they own have taken initiative steps. Under the circumstances the local people irrespective men, women, poor and solvent villagers together collected money, wood and other materials and thus contributed voluntarily and eventually erected around two hundred fifty feet long and five feet wide wood-made bridge.
The local people have set an example by constructing a wood-made bridge with their own initiative.
Local Headman Deen Mohan Tripura said, “Victims are skeptical about when the government will take initiative steps in this regard. So they have been forced to take initiative to build temporary bridge.”
Council Member of Matiranga Sadar Union Amrita Kumar Tripura said, “For the construction of the bridge, it is being spent about a million of taka. Further, as well as money, people of different ages are physically laboring.”
Local resident Binoyon Tripura said, “There is no one to see our suffer. It is embarrassing for the government to build the bridge temporarily with the cost of poor people.”
Local agriculturist Darji Mohon Tripura and Suresh Tripura said, “Due to the deadlock of the bridge, we have been in great danger with the production of agricultural products.”
A college student of Purbani Tripura said, “During this current rainy season, could not attend college regularly. Thousands of students have suffered.”
Matiranga Upazila Nirbahi Officer Bibhishan Kanti Das said, “In order to rebuild the bridge, an application has been submitted to the concerned higher authority. Hopefully this crisis will be cut soon.”
