Opener Liton Das scored a blistering unbeaten ton as Islami Bank East Zone gave a good strong reply in their first innings as they scored 264 for 3 at stumps against Walton Central Zone’s massive first innings total on the second day of sixth and last round of Bangladesh Cricket League on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Abdul Mazid scored his second first class double hundred as Walton Central Zone piled up a their first innings at a massive total of 546 against Islami Bank East Zone.
Mazid, who was retired hurt on the first day after scoring 159 off 181 deliveries, returned to bat on the second day and completed a double hundred, after Central Zone resumed their first innings on the second day with overnight score at 404 for 4.
East Zone still trailed by 282 runs in the first innings and they have seven wickets in hand at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
Although East Zone suffered early batting jolt losing two quick wickets inside 53 runs. But Opener Liton continued his natural batting as he led the East Zone’s chase with a quick fire 125-ball off 139-run that included 23 boundaries and one over boundary.
The right handed batsman Liton also was involved in a 148-run third wicket partnership with Tasamul Haque who chipped way 93-ball off 67 before giving a return catch to Shuvagata Hom.
The 23-year old Liton remained unbeaten along with Afif Hossain who was 31 on the crease as the stumps were drawn for the day.
Shuvagata Hom bagged two East Zone’s wickets for 82 runs. He was well supported by Mosharraf Hossain who took one wickets giving away 55.
However there was uncertainty that the right-hander will manage to reach his double century after Central lost overnight batsman Shuvagata Hom (71) and Irfan Shukkur (3) in a space of three overs.
However, following a brilliant eighth-wicket 76-run stand with Mohammad Sharif (41), Majid managed to complete his double century. He eventually fell after a 246-ball 205-run, an innings that studded with 22 fours and eight sixes.
East Zone’s Sohag Gazi completed his spells with an impressive figure of 5 for 188 while Abu Jayed and Mohammad Saifuddin shared two wickets each giving away 51 and 77 runs respectively.
