When the Tigers suffered a humiliating Test series defeat against West Indies, Liton Das was the only Tigers’ batsman was shine with bat and today credit must goes to him behind the Bangladesh’ s T20 series victory.
Despite being an in form batsman, Liton couldn’t get a place in the staring XI of any ODIs. His absence didn’t help Bangladesh anyway as Liton’s replacement Anamul Haque failed miserable in the ODI series.
However, after good performances in the Nidashas trophy this year in Sri Lanka, Liton got the attention of the selectors and was able to make his place in the T20I team. He did not dismaye the opportunity that was given by the selectors.
Liton just played quite of a similar innings which he played against Sri Lanka in Nidahas trophy. This time with even more sensibly. With 6 fours and 3 massive sixes, he blasted 61 off just 31 balls and helped Bangladesh to set a massive target for West Indies.
He played a vital role behind his side’s 19-run victory and was named man of the match for his maiden fifty in the T20 format.
He also won the fastest fifty and safest player award tonight.
After getting the man of the match award, Liton said: “It is definitely a big win for our team,” he says. “They are a very good team… they are the world champions. The pitch was similar to the surface on our country. This is my first fifty and I’m lucky.”
After losing the first T20I in Windies, Bangladesh fought back and won the the next two matches and also the series in Florida.
