Literacy with skill a must for development

Speakers at a post-rally discussion Monday said there is no alternative to illiteracy-free educated and skilled human resources for attaining overall development in the process of building a digitised middle income country.
They were addressing the discussion jointly organised by district administration and District Non Formal Education (NFE) Bureau in association with different NGOs in observance of the International Literacy Day-2014 at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city.
The day was observed through various programmes with theme of ‘Literacy and Sustainable Development’ here today as elsewhere in the country and the world as a whole.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad led a huge colourful rally that was brought out in the city streets with participations of officials of different government and non-government organizations, teachers, students, educationists, professionals, sociocultural activists and elite of the city.
With Assistant Director of the District NFE Bureau Musfikur Rahman in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Dr ATM Mahbub Ul Karim attended the discussion as the chief guest.
Divisional Deputy Director for Primary Education Mohiuddin Ahmed Talukder, Senior District Information Officer Monzur-e-Mowla and Programme Manager (Filed Coordination) of RDRS Bangladesh, addressed, among others.
In their speeches, the speakers said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working sincerely through taking massive steps to achieve 100 percent literacy rate to free the nation from the curse of illiteracy as soon as possible.
They highly lauded the new national education policy and urged all concerned for its proper implementation to achieve the long-cherished goal of an illiteracy-free nation by spreading education among all for ensured peace and national prosperity.
The chief guest called for enhanced GO-NGO collaboration in implementing various government programmes to provide job-oriented education to the illiterate people to turn them into human resources for making independence fruitful for every citizen.
