Police arrested four people from different parts of the district on Tuesday night in connection with the deaths of a number of people from excessive consumption of liquor.
The arrestees were identified as Nur Nabi, 58, son of Abdur Rahman, owner of Parul Homeopathic Laboratory, Abdul Khalek, 55, son of Mahir Uddin, owner of Nur Homeo Hall, Abu Jewell, 35, son of Abu Bakkar, staff of Ahsan Homeo Pharmacy and Shahidul Alam Sabuj, 55, son of Tosaddek Hossain, owner of Korotoa Homeo Hall in Sadar upazila.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a case was filed against the owners of some homeo halls, in connection with the deaths of a number of people in the district.
Monwar Hossain, brother of victim Ranju who died after taking liquor, filed the case against the homeo hall owners on Tuesday.
The death toll from the liquor incident rose to 12 on Tuesday, with two more deaths in Shahjahanpur.
The tragedy has been unfolding in the district since Sunday night.
