Like in Bangladesh in Kuwait money buys but law also works

MOHAMMAD Shahid Islam, independent lawmaker from Luxmipur-2, was held by Kuwait’s Criminal Investigation Department on Saturday night. The independent MP is the founding president of Bangladesh community in Kuwait. Failing to get nomination from Awami League, he was elected MP as an independent candidate in the last general election.
According to Kuwait Arabic daily Al-Qabas, he is charged in case number No. 1429 of 2020, related to “human trafficking”. The Public Prosecution in Kuwait has directed several charges against the Bangladeshi MP and his colleagues related to trafficking in human beings and earning from the sale of residencies. He is expected to be charged with money laundering.
It is astonishing to see that one individual could collect over 1400 crore takas from our poor and deprived citizens who were desperate to go to Kuwait. With such huge money he took advantage of our money politics to become an MP. It is alleged that he managed an unholy nexus with certain high officials of Kuwait by bribing them with cars and other expensive gifts which enabled him to make this much money in a short time.
We are sure he was enjoying money power in our famously corrupt country and his partners are safe in Bangladesh. In spite of his influence in high places law works in Kuwait and he is facing the law.
In our country elections are held to show how powerless and characterless we are. We have elections to ignore the people. We are now a revolutionary country in continuation of Bangabandhu’s second revolution. So there is no justification for anybody to be shameful about who does what abroad when we are not shameful about our own situation in the country.
