Lightning strikes kill 5 in Sylhet Div

Five people, including three boys, were killed in lightning strikes in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Habiganj in the Sylhet division on Saturday.
The deceased were Babul Miah, 17, son of Badar Uddin, of Mirergaon at Mogalgaon union under sadar upazila in Sylhet, his younger brother Emon Miah, 10, and his neighbour Abdul Amin, 16, son of Belal Miah, Abdul Karim, 40, of Bullagram at Lakhai upazila in Habiganj, and Zahur Alam, 35, son of Azman Ali of Menzargaon village at Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj.
Locals said that Babul, Emon and Amin were fishing at Zilkar Haor, a marshland near their village Mirergaon, amid raining around 5:00pm when a thunderbolt struck them, leaving them dead on the spot.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim died after being struck by lightning around 4:30pm when he went to bring back the cattle from field beside Gunaigram at Khagaura union under Baniachang upazila in Habiganj.
Local union chairman Shawquat Arefin Selim confirmed of the death incident and said that Karim was appointed by one Mukith Chowdhury to harvest Boro rice.
In another incident, lightning struck Zahur Alam at the noon when he was fishing in the Angaruli Haor near the Menzargaon village, leaving him dead on the spot.
