A total of eight persons were killed in lightning strikes in four upazilas of Netrakona district on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Netrakona Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman said, three persons were killed in Khaliajury upazila, two persons in Modan upazila, two persons in Kendua upazila and one person was killed in Purbadhala upazila.
Besides, five persons were injured in Khaliajury upazila and four persons in Modan upazila by thunderbolt strikes at the same time, he said.
In Khaliajury upazila, Wasek Mia, 32, and Bipul Mia, 28, from village Jogannathpur and Monir Mia,28, from village Bathuail under the Khaliajury upazila were killed by lightning strike while they were harvesting Boro paddy in Borbori Haor nearby their houses during heavy rainfall.
In Kendua upazila, Bayezid Mia, 42, from village Bairati and Fazlur Rahman, 55, from village Kundoli under the Kendua upazila were killed by thunderbolt strike when they were working in their paddy field in front of their houses in widespread rainfall.
In Modan upazila, Atabur Rahman, 21, of village Fatepur and Sharif Mia,18, of the same village under the Modan upazila were killed by lightning strike while they were
playing football on Fatepur maidan during heavy downpour.
In Purbadhala upazila, Junaieth, 11, of village Pagli under the Purbadhala upazila was killed by thunderbolt strike when he was playing football on his house premises during ceaseless rainfall.
Meanwhile, Netrakona district administration handed over taka 15,000 as emergency help to each of the family of the deceased for their burial and taka 3000 to each of the injured persons for their treatment, the DC added.
At least 16 people died on Tuesday after being struck by lightning Netrakona Faridpur, Manikganj and Kishoreganj, reports UNB.
Of them, eight people were killed, four in Faridpur, two in Manikganj and one in Kishoreganj, according to our local correspondents.
Meanwhile in Faridpur, four people including a woman were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were Anwara Begum, 38, Kabir Molla, 48, Dulal Khan, 58, and Kabir Sheikh, 40.
Besides, lightning strikes killed a day labourer and a school boy in the Sadar upazila of Manikganj. The victims were Azmat Ali, 50, and Asif Mollah, 14.
