Lighter vessel strike halts offloading at Chattogram Port

Bangladesh Marine Sramik Federation enforced work shut down from midnight of Friday demanding implementation of 10 point demands across the country . Joint secretary of the central committee Md. Khorshed Alam confirmedthe enforcement of the strike from 12-01 am (after midnight) .
Following the strike of the Marine Sramik Federation, lighter vessel workers also halts offloading of the consignement from mother vessels at Chattogram port outer berth.Vice President of Sramik Federation of Chattogram Unit Md. Nabi Alam said following the strike call of the Sramik Federation, the lighter vessel workers here also expressed solidarity to the calls of sramik federation and observed strike spontaneously.
Secretary of Chattogram Port Omar Faruk told that cargo handing in inner berths and container handling at port jetties remain operated.
Meanwhile Bangladesh Marine Sramik Federation has enforced strike across the country and the lighter vessel workers also observing strike from last night but the handling of bulk cargo and containers at inner berth remains operative.
The operation of lighterage vessels at Chattogram Port remained halted Friday night after marine transport workers went on a strike to press for 10-point demands.
The demands include 100 percent food allowance, issuing appointment letters, service books, and landing pass for crews of India-bound vessels.
According to gazette of 2016, the workers demanding their pay and wages, sources said.
