Ex-minister Mufti Wakkas passes away

Veterinarian politician, former state minister of religious affairs and also lawmaker for Jashore – 5 constituency, Mufti Muhammad Wakkas died at the age of 74. He breathed his last at around 5:30am at intensive care unit of Sheikh Russel Medical College Hospital in Dhaka, Maulana Abdur Rashid Wakkas, son of the former lawmaker told journalists.
He is survived by wife, three sons, four daughters and a host of well-wishers to mourn.
Family sources said the former four- party alliance leader was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on March 22 and then shifted to Sheikh Russel Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on March 24. He was suffering from old-age complications.
The former MP was buried at the premises of Madaninagar Madrassah at Monirampur after his namaj-e- janaja there, said local resident Shahid Iqbal Rumi.
He was made state minister for religious affairs during the era of HM Ershad and lawmaker for Jashore- 5- constituency in 2001 while BNP led alliance was in power.
Aninda Islam Amit, assistant organizing secretary, Bangladesh Nationalist Party expressed his deep shock at the death of the president of Jamiate Ulamaye Islam.
