Reports received from different areas of southern region including Barisal city said that light tremor jolted their areas at 13:15:15 to 13:15:30 pm on Tuesday noon.
However, the only Seismograph in southern region at Patuakhali Science and Technology University, remained out of order since last two-year and so no official record was obtained from there.
No causality was reported till this report, but panic created among the general and religious minded peoples of the jolted areas, said local sources.
Huge number of people went out on roads and open spaces feeling jolts of the ground and water. People also crowded on Bibir Pukur, a huge pond on city center, to see abnormal waves on water level.
After contacting with Prof. Monirul Islam of agriculture technology department and in charge of the only earth quake measuring instrument center of the southern region at Patuakhali Science and Technology University seismographic center over mobile phone, he said, the center closed since last two-year. So he could not say any official statement.
Before a major earthquake or Tsunami, there may be some minor jolts which could aware us. Analyzing the facts of these small earthquakes conception of place and time of any severe earthquake can be attained, Monirul explained.
