Life expectancy in BD now 70.6 yrs

The life expectancy at birth in the country rose to 71.6 years in 2016 from 70.9 years in 2015, according to the results of Sample Vital Registration System of 2016.
“The life expectancy at birth in the country rose to 71 years and six months in 2016,” Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters on Tuesday after the Ecnec meeting at the NEC-1 conference room in the city.
The average life expectancy was 70.7 years in 2014, 70.4 years in 2013 and 69.4 years in 2012.
The gain is much higher in the case of females with their life expectancy being 72.9 years in 2016. It was 70.3 years for males.
The Planning Minister revealed some major highlights of the ‘Bangladesh Sample Vital Registration System 2016.
According to the latest survey, the crude marriage rate (per 1,000 population) in 2016 was 14.3 percent, including 17.7 percent in rural areas, while 10.1 percent in urban areas.
The crude marriage rate (per 1,000 population) in 2015 was 13 percent, including 14.9 percent in rural areas, while 10.2 percent in urban areas.
About the marital status of population aged 10+ in percentage in 2016, some 39 percent of the male population are unmarried, some 59.4 pc currently married while 1.5 percent widowed/divorced/separated.  
In the case of female population in 2016, some 26.3 percent are unmarried, some 63.5 percent currently married while 10.1 percent are widowed/divorced/separated.
About the marital status of population aged 10+ (percent) in 2015, some 38.6 percent of the male population unmarried, some 59.7 percent currently married while 1.7 percent widowed/divorced /separated.
In the case of female population in 2015, some 26.1 percent are unmarried, 64.1 percent currently married while 9.8 percent are widowed/divorced/separated.
