Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Livestock Services (DLS) aimed at improving lifestyle of landless small and marginal farmers in Haor areas.
LGED Chief Engineer Shyama Prasad Athikari and Director of DLS Dr SyedArif Azad signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at headquarters of the LGED in the city.
The LGED has undertaken a Haor Flood Management and Livelihood Improvement Project (HFMLIP)to manage recurrent flood and enhance living standard through livelihood improvement in five Haor districts; Sunamganj, Habiganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria.
According to a press release, Bangladesh government and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are jointly financing the project.
Around 20 lakh of Haor people will be benefited after the implementation of the project, the release said.
