Letters sent to CJ Lawyers urge for opening lower courts

The Leaders of the district bar associations of Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet have sent letters to the Chief Justice appealing to open the trial proceedings of the lower courts across the country amid the ongoing restrictions imposed following the new surge of the Coronavirus.
Letters from Chattogram and Sylhet were sent on Wednesday and Dhaka Bar Association’s letter was sent on April 5, sources said.
The Supreme Court administration has declared a closing to judicial proceedings in all courts across the country since April 5 in the wake of the new surge in Coronavirus infections.
But one chamber Bench in the Appellate Division and four High Court division Benches are conducting cases to hear the urgent matters. And one or more magistrate courts are open in every district and metropolitan court.
This decision came into effect on April 5. The lawyers of the Supreme Court organization human chain program as they are unhappy with the decision. They demanded to run all the virtual Benches of the High Court divisions.
In this circumstance the Secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association on April 5 wrote a letter to the Chief Justice to open the lower courts of Dhaka. Following him this time the leaders of the Chattogram and Sylhet bars send letters to the Chief Justice.
The letter sent from the Sylhet Bar Association said that it is necessary to take some steps to conduct trial proceedings in the lower courts in the interest of the justice seeking people and lawyers even during the ongoing restricted period.
The Sylhet District Bar Association is praying for the necessary directions to run the court in compliance with the steps required by the health guidelines, also read the letter.
Sylhet Bar President Advocate ATM Foyez Uddin and Secretary Advocate Mahfuzur Rahman sent the letter on behalf of their bar association.
Signed by Chattogram Bar Secretary Advocate AHM Ziauddin, the letter said it is necessary to run the hearings on bail petition, embargo petition and ohter petitions on a limited scale in the lower courts in order to dispose of the urgent matters during the arising situation.
The Chattogram Bar has already taken some steps to maintain the health guidelines in the bar premises, also mentioned the letter.
