Speakers at a seminar on Wednesday said that legally binding climate agreement (LBA) is indispensable for survival for most vulnerable countries (MVC)’s survival.
They urged the Prime Minister to lead the climate negotiation process and take the position for a LBA in climate, which is indispensable for survival of MVCs counties.
The speakers said this while addressing a seminar on ” SDG and Paris Climate Conference: Redlines in View of MVCs People Expectations” in the city, organised by Climate Action Network South Asia and EquityBD.
A senior official of EquityBD Sayed Aminul Haque presented a key note where he pointed in respect of SDG implement.To implement SDG effectively it is necessary to uphold the primacy of human rights, tackle inequality and the over concentration of wealth, rain in corporate power and stop militarization and war.
Dr Abdul Matin of BAPA and Kawser Raham of BCJF criticized present Forest and Environment Minister role in last Lima Climate Conference.
They said,” it was loss of Bangladesh achievements of past decades leading image in climate negotiations, which was influenced by consultants and bureaucrats who work not for the interest of people.”
Ziaul Haque Mukta of CSRL, and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of EquityBD mentioned that in Lima the Bangladesh delegation did not followed Prime Minister position, even they also criticized Bangladesh representative role in Green Climate Fund (GCF) who did not oppose loan provision for Least Developed Countries (LDC) from GCF.
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of EquityBD moderated the seminar. Other speakers of the seminar were Dr Golam Rabbani of Bangladesh Centre for Advance Studies (BCAS), Dr Sharmind Neelormi and Ziaul Haque Mukta of Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihood (CSRL), Dr Abdul Matin of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Qumrul Islam Chowdhury, General Secretary National Press Club and President Forum of Environment Journalist Bangladesh (FEJB), Kawser Rahman, President Bangladesh Climate Change Journalist Forum (BCJF), Sayed Jahangir Hossain of Coastal Development Partnership (CDP), Sajid Raihan, Deputy Director Action Aid Bangldesh and Board Member CANSA, Badrul Alam of Bangladesh Krishok Forum and Aminur Rasul of Unnayan Dhara.
