Executive chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Paban Chowdhury on Monday announced that a leather village would be set up in Chittagong to help bring back the lost glory of leather industry in the port city.
He said the BEZA would provide 300 to 500 acres of land to set up a leather village and many foreign firms have already expressed their eagerness in this sector.
“There are only two leather institutions in Chittagong. We want to change Chittagong and bring back its lost glory of leather industry”, Paban added.
The BEZA Executive Chairman said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of three-day Development Fair at the practice ground of city’s M A Aziz Stadium this morning.
Chittagong District Administration organized the Fair on the occasion of the Home Coming Day of the father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Paban Chowdhury said BEZA has a plan to set up 100 economic zones across the country and majority of them would be developed in Chittagong.
“We are developing economic zones in Mirsarai and Anowara and two lakh people from this region will get job opportunities after setting up of these economic zones”, he pointed out.
