Staff Reporter :
The 301 members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Wednesday demanded to remove the ‘woman statue’ which was put up on the Supreme Court (SC) premises.
Advocate Gias Uddin Ahammed, former Secretary of the Bar, in a press release made the demand.
The press release said that the ‘Scale’ was set up as the symbol of justice on the SC premises from the very beginning. But recently a woman’s statue with scale had been set up instead of ‘Scale’.
There was no requirement for setting up such a woman’s statue in the SC. That step is against the religious spirit of 90 percent Muslim population of the country, the press release said. So the lawyers hoped that the Chief Justice would take initiatives to remove the statue immediately.
Signatures of the press release included Senior Advocate A B M Nurul Islam, Advocate Shah Khasruzzaman, Advocate Md Shahjada, Advocate Sheikh Sirajul Islam, Advocate Ashrafuzzaman, Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker and others.
