UNB, Kishoreganj :
Miscreants stabbed an apprentice lawyer dead during an alleged mugging attempt at Nataler More in Bhairab upazila on Monday midnight.
The deceased identified as Ismail Hossain Palash, son of Abdul Hashim Miah, former Aganagar union AL president and a UP member, was also senior vice-president of the upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
The incident occurred at Nataler More when a group of miscreants attempted to mug Palash and at one stage, they stabbed him indiscriminately.
Locals rescued him with severe injuries and took him to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex where he later died.
Police later took his body to Bhairab police station and sent it to Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-charge (investigation) of the police station Abu Taher Miah confirmed the incident saying that they were looking into whether there were other reasons, including previous enmity, behind the murder.
The incident is the latest among a string of muggings in Bhairab, one of which led to the death of a Pran-RFL official last month. Despite repeated complaints, police patrolling in the area has been lax as of late.
